Putting Power in the Patients' Hands with Nicholas R. Szymanski of Signature Healthcare, MA

On this episode of the Disruptive Innovators: Champions of Digital Business podcast, host David Wright welcomes Nicholas R. Szymanski, Vice President / Chief Information Officer at Signature Healthcare, MA, to the show.

Nicholas's advice to his younger self would be to give more recognition to emotional intelligence and to be patient. Healthcare is 24/7, but humans are the ones providing the service. Healthcare workers have lives outside of work and it’s important to give sincere thanks and appreciation.

Nicholas also talks about how he encourages his team to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. This results in them providing a more effective service to both the organization and the patients.

As a community hospital, Signature Healthcare has a more limited budget than larger healthcare systems. Financial responsibility is crucial. Committing to one solution for a problem becomes key.

Value is in the perception of the customer. A customer portal and telehealth capabilities are pivotal in the work setting for Nicholas and his team.

Nicholas also dives into what it would look like if patients had control over their data and privacy. Tune into the episode now to learn more!
