Tech Transition to Help Healthcare with Karen Marhefka of RWJBarnabas Health

On this episode of the Disruptive Innovators: Champions of Digital Business podcast, host David Wright welcomes Karen Marhefka, Deputy CIO at RWJBarnabas Health.

Karen details the breadth of her career, from 23 years at UMass Memorial working with AI and IT followed by ten years in consulting. Now she is spearheading a massive electronic health record system transition at RWJBarnabas.

She shares her lighthearted vision of healthcare's future. Combining the best of a compassionate culture and the best available technology will make for an optimized experience. Imagine an in-person office visit without any paperwork, payment, or insurance mentioned. That can all be taken care of behind the scenes.

Karen says, "One of the things in creating this optimized patient experience is it needs to be radically convenient and personalized."

David and Karen discuss facing fears and the willingness to take risks in their lives. They end the episode with the advice they would have given to their younger selves.
